In a Washington briefing, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said one reason federal assets were not used more quickly was "because our constitutional system really places the primary authority in each state with the governor."I never thought it would come to this that I would want the federal government to have the means to overrule a governor... but I think they need a mechanism where the federal government can consult neighboring governors to get a consensus of the region and overrule an individual governor in a natural disaster or the like. Or they just need a provision that lets them bag a crazy witch and federalize the whole corrupt stinkin' thing.

I heard or read a story that the voters of NOLA voted down TWICE in the last 2 election cycles a ballot measure to fund the necessary upkeep and maintenance costs of the levee system because it would lead to higher taxes for the city.
None of the "Blame Bush First" crowd even bothers with that factoid. Liberals steer clear of facts anyway as it is. What do you expect? NOLA is run by a bunch of corrupt DUmmies.

Pretty close I hear. He was shaking his head at Bush Admin today I read elsewhere here on FR. But the word on FR has him "going to the dark side" long before Katrina.

Correct- if you follow the MSNBC link they've published the compost story. Is that becoming more common, or did I just never notice before?
