The vast majority of the folks who stayed were able bodies and they would have walked a mile or two from where they resides to the SuperDome.

Not sure how you know this -- and some I saw on TV wouldn't desert un-able-bodied relatives. Or "able-bodied" pets.

Those who were not able to walk should have called the police and they would have moved them.

Yes, the NO police have been an example to us all. And how much help would they have been to those determined to protect their property or not abandon their pets?

Metropolitan New Orleans have 1.5 millions people, around 1.3 to 1.4 million evacuated before the Hurricane because they were smart enough to do so.

You're assuming everyone wanted to evacuate and were too "stupid" to figure out how. (And I'm still watching for my mother's Irish backhander from beyond for even using that word about people!) Apparently, rescuers are still having a time convincing everyone who stayed to agree to be evacuated. There were some people who did not want to go, for their own reasons. Not everyone's primary motivation is simple physical survival.

for sure. FNC has video of rescue boats with relief workers screaming into the streets - some people just came out of their houses like nothing was happening and said "you want us to leave?". the guy on the boat was incredulous.
