>>What husbands? I think I can count on the fingers of both hands the numbers of families I've seen ... mostly single moms and kids.<<

I've seen many , many families, and what is the difference? They all need help....God bless them

I'm sorry, what am I missing? Is it mock-worthy that a member of MoveON is joining the rest of the human race in wanting to help those suffering from Katrina? I mean, there's plenty of times to go at those folks - this offer to help doesn't seem like one.

Did you happen to notice as the TV coverage unfolded over the week, that there was not a single reporter inside the Superdome in NO?

I thought that I saw people that was inside the Superdome being interviewed early on. I could be mistaken.

Send me an private email, and I will send them if you need them.

It's a subtle hit on the Bush administration. As long as they are showing rescues, etc, it is a reminder of how long it took to get them help cause god forbid we actually praise the rescuers, they look like mostly military types, no way you can really support that kind of thing. We should have had an Army of Sean Penns who obviously never piloted a boat before...

Russert was screaming, waving his arms, and otherwise histrionic today. Had to turn down the audio volume.

One thing is for certain - a catastrophe of this magnitude certainly separates the men from the boys, and the movers/shakers versus the whining nervous nellies.

I am in complete agreement with you, so I'll repost this link that gives many other locations where the 10,000 families now being sheltered in Alexandria/Pineville can receive help:

If I was notified of that in the past 48 hours, I missed the alert. Thanks.

May I add in addition to her being incredibly stupid, she is extremely shallow.

Perth man 'feared for life' in Superdome

Monday September 5, 01:37 PM

A Perth man who was trapped inside the Superdome in New Orleans has told his father of the horror that went on inside.

Simon Wood, 26, is now in Miami, after fleeing the dome with several other Australians.

His father Peter Wood says his son feared he and his friends would be killed if they stayed in the arena.

"In front of their eyes, a young lad, Simon doesn't know whether he was a foreigner or what he was, was either forced, pushed or jumped for his life over a balcony inside the dome and fell to his death in front of these guys' eyes," he said.

Mr Wood says his son and a number of others fled from the Superdome because they believed that as foreigners, they would not survive.

"I think Simon was awake for something like 50 odds hours helping look after himself and his mates and he told me the other morning he's never been so fearful for his life, absolutely fearful."

Mr Wood spoke to Simon for the first time yesterday.

"We obviously didn't get a lot of time each to talk about a lot, but I tell you what, it's the best Father's Day present you could ever ever wish for," he said.

"I'm still a bit emotional about this but we've spoken to him since and he is safe, he's well away from the area now."

Well I would really like an afirmative answer to this question. I NEVER saw a television shot from inside the Superdome, I only saw news reporters talk about what was happening inside the Superdome.

And I will never forget how I felt, when I saw the first shot of the empty Astodome in Houston,.....empty, clean, set-up with cots, waiting. And I thought, I've never seen what the inside of the Superdome looks like. Not ONCE.

You are missing a long list of qualifying limitations that eliminates 99.7% of those needing assistance. That is why it is genuinely laughable.

Each term in that letter has a "legal meaning" that is different from plain English. I don't konw what all of the terms mean, specifically.

I am specifically requesting:
emergency protective measures [ this is a term of art ],
direct Federal Assistance [ this is a term of art ]

Money can save lives. Police/armed reinforcement can save lives. Helicopeter and boat rescue can save lives. Supplies of food, clothing and shlter can save lives. Communications equipment can save lives. Cleanup is a form of assistance.

The state is equipped to provide ALL of those functions, and usually coordinates all effort, even if compensated by federal monies afterwards.

The governor did not give the Federal government authority.

Are you saying she was just not clear enough in what kind of help to save lives? That it was still just asking for money to save lives?

Basically, yes. The effort needs to be specifically coordinated, and there are all sorts of issues, such as who calls the shots, and who holds the risk of legal liability. The primary responsibility for coordination is at the state level.

Thank God I'm not an attorney, but had to have a peek before bed.

Only one section of that document requested direct Federal hands-on intervention, the rest was one kind of funding grab or another.

Here's the relevant section, from pg 3:
