My step-mother works with disaster situations and she said that during mandatory evacuations they are supposed to go in and get every citizen that is there to give their name and the location of dental records and their description and they tell the people "so we can identify your body",,, similar to toe tags--- probably more of a scare tactic, but whatever works

And all the governor of LA did was ask people to pray that the winds diminished.

Where in those states? Did they lose their homes, or have really bad damage?

For native son Nagin, loss is personal

By Lolly Bowean
Chicago Tribune staff reporter
Published September 3, 2005

Four years ago cable television executive C. Ray Nagin quit his high-paying job, gambling that his hard-nosed business sense, bold style and ability to relate to people in his city could save New Orleans from its downward cycle.

At the time, Nagin, a Democrat and a self-made millionaire, bragged that he had no experience in politics and had never depended on the government for work. He jumped into the mayor's race at the last minute because he believed he could rebuild the economy and bring in jobs.

His strategy got him elected.

But since Monday, the man who was so proud of never relying on the government has had to beg for federal help for his city.

Nagin used the same straight-shooting style that helped him get ahead in the business world and win over voters in New Orleans.

=========================

Yup, he's sure a straight-shooting, bold, hard-nosed guy. Blech.

I too saw some rescuers even today in NO going door to door trying to convince people to get out.

Well, all I can say is the author of that NYT article will probably himself have to find a new job one of these days. It's not up -- I mean down -- to the standards of the Old York Times.

Should tell your mother he's now praising Bush. LOL

Yep, the mayor sniffs which direction this is headed and now wants on Bush's coattails.

$500 Mil from Kuwait and $100 Mil from Qatar.

Before you make ANY more comments, check out the thread about it in news. Kuwait has already more than paid us back for the 1991 war, and they don't finance terrorism.

Mustn't forget the piles of $$$ that will somehow end up in his straight-shootin' bold pocket, either.
