BTW for those who don't know, Miami University team's name is the Hurricanes.
Hill hasn't aged well. She looked like instead of Dorian Gray, they let his portrait go out in public as it looked better.
Aid from the Feds will be given, but right now they're in a gray area. RC isn't doing anything for them. SA *is*, from what I've heard. Some private efforts are being made.
I can tell you a little, they are in hotels, running out of money, I went to visit a few,,,they can't stomach the thought of going to a shelter---these are harding working *tax payers* and they were smart enough to get out before the storm and now running on 10 days in a hotel at 70$ a night is not cheap,,,,
I've read truly inspiring stories of people who were previously insulated in these neighborhoods. They are shocked at how kind and giving people are.
These folks will remember this, and they'll also remember how their local government did them dirty. God truly does work in mysterious ways.
Not yet that I've seen (if we ever see it) but they've shared enough for me!
This Letterman interview is remarkable ---in a bad way, not good.
Shep is going on and on, like he did in NO...talking about how no one was in charge...nothing was getting done..blah, blah..
Letterman's response: "That's regrettable."
Yeppers, a NORTHEAST social snob's comment after a tale of woe is me, and dying is "That's regrettable."
That tell's it all about the disconnect, doesn't it?
I know what you mean. Our last day in California was the Northridge quake... we had everything but last minute items already moved to AZ ... woke up and said; get dressed, we're outa here.
please correct, but as far as i've seen on Leno tonight, he hasn't even mentioned it,,,,have i just missed it???
As time has gone on it's a GOOD thing for her staff that she doesn't allow them to look her in the eye. She looks like Dung Delight.
A couple of my relatives...ahem...have already rented trailers and gotten jobs. Seriously.
Another man here in Houston said that he had 40 people at his house. Some of them had already gotten jobs.
My prediction: Many of the skilled workers will stay at their new locations. Those will job skills in demand will be snapped up by new employers in their new states. When the refugee shelters are closed by the Red Cross the homeless and jobless that remain will be shipped back to New Orleans. The middle class of NO will drastically shrink, the gap between rich and poor will increase.
And just think, she will be 3 years OLDER in 2008...that can't help her at all! he he
Oh My Gosh! LOL!!!
Reminds me of one of our city council people wer are recalling. She had the nerve to say if we didn't all attend the council meetings we didn't have the right to vote... the reason no one attends is they won't let you speak.
This just in......
2 local evacuees here in houston rescued some people from an apartment fire here today, even giving the victims their shoes,,,those 2 evacuees are staying in a hotel,,,
Many of the poor won't be going back either - see the last thread where we discussed how the NO welfare system makes it impossible to get off it - even if you do have skills, there's usually nothing in NO that pays enough to get you off welfare.
Welcome to our world. Beats anything I've ever seen, bar none.
Who?
I didn't see Leno...
I was talking about Shep Smith on Letterman.
I asked the same question earlier. Soul searcher gave me an anwer I can only hope is true.

They both look like something the cat drug in!
Forgot to add: Those that have any skills or willingness to work will readily find jobs will find employment (easily!) in Texas, and I think that will be the majority of them. The rest will get sent back to NO.
I don't think the rich will go back (except fot the Dem machine types), so that will change the makeup considerably.
