You may just be onto something in that assessment. Makes more sense than anything else.
"We're *well* over the 100,000 we were initially told to expect."
The lone star state of Texas has welcomed most of the evacuees from one of the worst natural disasters in US history, housing 127,000 in shelters or in the homes of private citizens, an official of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said.
Health Official Declares Emergency in Texas:
SAN ANTONIO - The nation's top health official declared a public health emergency in Texas on Monday, saying it would speed up federal assistance as the state tries to accommodate almost 240,000 refugees from Hurricane Katrina

He does have an E-Mail address for subscribers. I'm not sure if he has a general account for non subscribers.
I thought President Bush said the results were not acceptable on Thursday of last week. Then he repeated it on Saturday.
2149 - EXCELLENT post B4Ranch!!
they showed all these hardwood floor buckled due to water damage.....man....all those houses.
Yup, and we're projected to have 250K in shelters by the end of this week.
Damn the corrupt #)$()*&$#)@&)$ in Louisiana.
A lifetime of payback? :-)
On WAJR (1440 AM - Morgantown) they were reporting that some of the refugees were staying at Camp Dawson, in Preston County; apparently they went through Charleston first, so I assume more are staying elsewhere in the state.
The radio here in Dallas had a Houston physician on who said they are seeing TB and several people have presented with flesh-eating bacteria. Some doctors are giving antibiotics to everyone, as nearly every person with an open wound has developed nasty infections, and this flesh-eating thing is nothing to mess around with.
the decision to rebuild NO should not be based on whether its a lib stronghold or not. NYC is a lib stronghold too. the rebuilding of NO will occur, but some parts of the city may not be rebuilt. NO is important economically to the US in terms of shipping and oil.
we need a good solid plan, and we need to take the corrupt LA and NO political machines out of the rebuilding effort.
Bush needs to show that the adults are in charge.
I keep thinking about the post where it was stated there were 4 dempsey dumpsters worth of weapons collected in the Dome. Then I think of all those buses with just one armed guard each. I find it an absolute miracle that all the guards and drivers made it to Houston alive.
I generally adore Krauthammer but think he's off base on this matter. And has been since the start.
Maybe as someone with special needs of his own he relates to how those poor people must have felt being practically abandoned by the city officials.
If some of these officials are not brought to justice in this disaster, there is no justice.
They have also noticed (more disturbingly) that conventional antibiotics are not doing *anything* against some of this stuff. There's also an opportunistic little bug that is some variant of cholera that, while not airborne, is NOT responding to drugs.
"Yup, and we're projected to have 250K in shelters by the end of this week."
At this rate Texas might need its own Katrina thread 1-15.
I have to admit that WalMart really stepped up to the plate.
And if you can get an autographed pic of Honore, I will love you forever. ;)
Prayers for your safety and quick return...............and for your lovely wife!
