I saw an interview with Jabbar Gibson on FOX News Channel. He is the genuine article. He saw something that needed to be done and he did it. Like a poster said above, he didn't need President Bush to tell him what to do. That's what makes heroes. I consider him an American hero. "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." He personifies that.
I hope some folks remember this young man and offers him a real opportunity for a future. What an example! GO Jabbar!
Oh me too. I luv this. It's a perfect example of American self reliance. He should be elected mayor, governor, senator. We need "take charge" people like him . His story should be told to everyone.
How I wish more people would have done what he did. It was so sad to see people waiting to be saved. That's my biggest gripe with liberalism- it makes people dependent, and unable to think for themselves.
When they teach Black History, they need to tell African Americans about their true heritage, not only that they survived slavery, but, that many of their ancestors were cowboys . They were the tough, resilient, self-reliant, people who settled the West.
Also- during the early part of the last century, African Americans had stronger family values, and lower out of wedlock birth rates, than whites. I bet no one teaches these facts. How about the life story of our National Treasure-Ray Charles-he made his own way in the world, in spite of racism, and his blindness. He brought people of all races together with his music, and left the world a better place. He didn't wait for someone to save him.
If you keep telling a person, from childhood, that everything is against them, that there's no hope, and teach them to blame what goes wrong in their lives on someone else, to take no personal responsibility, they will never be able to take care of themselves, even when their lives depend on it.
Thank God that Mr. Gibson didn't give up.
