Good mothers do what's best for their children. You exemplify that and are a blessing to Rachel's adoptive family. Those who understand the heartbreaking decisions that good mothers sometimes have to make couldn't help but defend you.

Thanks! The best part is that my ex-husband and I were praying with our therapist that a Christian family would adopt our baby. The next day this lady named Stephanie called and said she'd heard about us. Didn't know the name or gender of the baby. The next day she showed up at our house. Turns out she was a Christian who had a Masters in special ed and a specialty in premature infants. When she held Rachel (Rachel was 2-1/2 months premature and when she came home was on a heart monitor and 12 meds - her sister, Rebecca died after being alive for four days) in her arms, she said, "I've been praying for a little Down Syndrome girl named Rachel." We just cried and I told her I wanted an open adoption. She said that was fine with her.
We were also on 20/20 in 1991. Stone Phillips came to our house and when he interviewed us, he said to me, "You say you don't believe in abortion, yet you gave your baby up for adoption, how do you justify that?" I looked at him and said, "Abortion is taking a life. Adoption is giving a life, and we gave our baby the best life she could have."
They showed that part on t.v. I thought it was a pretty stupid question, but I guess he was asking it on behalf of some stupid t.v. viewers.
