He had some problems last year from the ACLU over an evac order for Ivan. The argument was that if the city orders an evac, it creates a legal obligation to provide transport to anybody without a car. And city-provided transport MUST bring them to a stocked shelter -- can't just transport them out of the path of the hurricane and drop them on the street in Houston

They could've stocked the Convention Center and the Superdome. Or brought them to shelters further north. The governor could've made that happen. But, what am i thinking. The governor can't make anything happen.

The sad and adverse consequences of ACLU actions will continue to roll in as time goes on. Unfortunately, most of the consequences will be harder than this one to track back to the source. A credible media would report the genesis of the Mayor's decision here. I'll bet he felt threatened by what the ACLU would do to him if he forced an evacuation. People in all kinds of situations and professions are refusing to take any responsibility for making decisions simply because a mistake would destroy their lives under a legal system and a media gone wild. Thank God, George Bush is courageous enough to begin taking action, even before the dust clears in these terrible crisis, because he is willing to step up to his responsibilities and take the vicious heat for not achieving perfection in a situation that only God could handle. I'll tell you one thing..I am sick of the small minds and the lack of knowledge, education, training and experience I have heard expressed in this media. It is distressing to witness and to listen to their persecution of those who were risking their lives to save these precious people, those doing the best they can, in hell, to rescue the suffering and the fallen. Arm chair referees, they were, the myopic media, there on the scene who only had to TALK..They were not out there in the worst of it, piloting those helicopters, using their physical strength to pull people out of that water and off those roofs, and going out to expose themselves to snipers, etc. We all think we know what we would do in this circumstance or that but until we are confronted to the initial chaos of any terrible crisis, we do not KNOW what we would do. The President, the Congress, The Mayor of New Orleans, and the Heads of all these Agencies, had to assess this chaotic situation as the information came in, then the resources had to be rounded up, etc., etc. All that takes time and for a handful of people who live in the secure, luxurious residences of New York and the Hamptons to sit back and take potshots continuously at our leaders tells me a lot about who they are. My trust is gone..FOX, shame on you!
