What are the penalties for law enforcement officers who abandon their duties during a situation like this? Dismissal is about all you can do.

What are the penalties for law enforcement officers who abandon their duties during a situation like this? Dismissal. It is quite firmly established (for more than a century) that the police have no responsibility to do much more than make records of criminal complaints. They are not under any legal obligation to protect you.

There was a story on CNN that one policeman in uniform walked into the convention center mess, walked up to one individual in the crowd, shot him in the head, and then left.
This sounds like the first page of a Ludlum novel.
Anybody know more about that incident?
It sounds like the police lost command and control.

Simple. If you are white you are fired. If you are black, nothing.
