I just left a baseball game in OKC and sat in front of an FBI agent and talked with him during the game. According to him, NO police dept is authorized 2100 officers. Before the storm, normal attrition had reduced the force to 1800 active officers on duty. He stated there are now less than 800 NOPD officers (1000+ have quit). Many have just walked off the job and disappeared. Others have joined the street gangs. Federal law enforcement is heavily involved and many of the NOPD will be in jail when it is all over. Federal SWAT teams have been operating for several days and "taking out the trash". He says there is much going on behind the scenes that most people will never know about, but the house cleaning has been underway for several days and progress has been substantial.

It will be interesting to see what the MSM picks up and how they report this (if they ever do)

You must be a smooth talker to get that out of an FBI agent. I believe it. My friend from New Orleans with ties to the NOPD told me that 500 NOPD officers quit within the first day after the storm hit.

You ever seen the New Orleans Police Department pay scales? The highest ranked patrol office, a Police Officer level 4, has a base pay of $32,500. That is $4000 less than a Kansas City Police probationary office makes. Once off probation, a KCPD officer with one year experience's base salary is $38,304 or slightly less than a New Orleans Police Lieutenant. I have a friend, a retired Chicago Police officer, who makes more in retirement pay than a New Orleans police captain. His son, a CPD major crimes detective, makes well over twice what a New Orleans sergeant makes. You do not attract the best and brightest to police work with salaries like that. And the fact that they had problems filling the ranks isn't surprising at all.

That just has to be the case. Even if Clinton wre in office, he would have done the same thing. The good side of this is the Feds will be forced to take control and clean up the mess. And much of the worse citizenry will be dispersed. Sort of like cleanup on aisle nine in Sodom and Gomorah.
