If the President has accepted her resignation, can O'Connor rescind it?

Even if she resigned, she can be reappointed. Let's see the Dems go after her.

If the President has accepted her resignation, can O'Connor rescind it? She will not do that now. The Chief was her best friend on the court (in fact they dated in college!). She would not want to be there without him.

If she did, it would be seen for what it would be---totally political...and unseemly, IMHO!

O'Connor resignation is contingent upon her successor's confirmation. So if the Roberts hearings drag out until October, then she will be still be on the court for the next term. I don't think she can at this point rescind it. Sure, President Bush can ask her to stay on & if she says yes, but unilaterally I say no.
