We fired one of our house painters today because he was stupid enough to BRAG to us about his plan to file a false claim in NO (his hometown), as though he suffered a loss. Well, he hasn't lived there for 5 years.

Thank you for that polly6107! I too, really thought I would fall right asleep, but instead, I'm wide awake and likely running on empty. Like you said, it must be the A/C.

Good for you. Some folks in Florida got nailed paying for funerals last year that were not-hurricane related.
Lots of folks took advantage of FEMA's generosity. I personally heard stories of folks took their families down to the shelters for a free meal, despite the fact they suffered no storm damage.

On the other hand, it could be the FReeping. I missed the computer and cable tv almost as much, if not more, than the air conditioning. I felt so isolated.

LOL! Go figure.

Probably both! I have just been caught up by husband who plans to get me up early to avoid the crowds at walmart, so my time here will be limited now...lol.

What a drastic life-style change! Actually, it kind of sounds like college to me.
Beer and cigs definitely circulated like currency amongst my crowd in college.
I don't even want to know what WD bartered w/ in college.

LOL!
It would be easier for you to go back to this lifestyle than it would for me.
You are almost fresh out of school!
I'd be interested to know what wardaddy bartered. ;o)

Packs of cigarettes lay strewn about the broken window. For many, they are a calming force after a horrible storm.
Telling statement here....

''It's beer for cigarettes, and cigarettes for beer,'' said Gary Illig, who was standing in the Kmart on Friday morning. And he stole it all. Forget feeding his kids! The Federal government will do that like they have always done, while he and others *itch about NO ONE "helping" them!!!

Not really. I'm prematurely old. I think I was born about 40, and I'm now in my 70s. My wife agrees.
Y'know I once saw a T-shirt in Seattle that read:
cocaine
marijuana
alcohol
cigarettes
coffee
That's about how I feel, except that for me it's even worse. Thanks to a wonky stomach, I can't really even drink coffee anymore. And, coffee was always my D.O.C.
(Sigh).

Welcome to aging, bourbon.
My daughter was born "old", too.
As to the T-shirt, it is absolutely perfect for the NW!
The progression from hard drugs to coffee is a road many have traveled.
And, it's to the point that we have Coffee Anonymous.
I'm series. ;o)
I'm sorry to hear about your stomach.
My daughter's is wonky, too.
What is it with you smart people?

It depends on what you mean by "alive".
