Thank you for pointing out KNOWN murders. It is my understanding that many, many murders, robberies and crimes go unreported because of the fear of reprisal by the gangs of New Orleans. That in fact the NOPD has a protection program offered for reporting crimes, but I get the impression the NOPD is so corrupt that anonymity cannot be guaranteed.

in 1995, it could be worth your life to trust in the NOPD
I don't know what it was like, say, one week ago.

I've read things about NOPD that indicate the people they hire add gross stupidity to evil character. There was a time when corrupt police would whack suspects on top of their heads with phone books, to elicit information/confessions. Causes pain, but doesn't leave visible bruises. Some people in the NOPD stupidly did it using hardbound city directories, caused bruises, and got caught.

The good news is that the storm broke up these gangs. The bad news is that they migrated elsewhere, and criminals always seem to find a way to get back together, My guess is that Baton Rouge will be a less safe place this coming year.
