My dad is a WW2 vet and like several folks from his generation I have known, they spit venom at the Red Cross and love the Salvation Army. Anyone else encounter this from 'oldschool' folks?

My Dad needed funds for emergency leave during ww2 the red cross turned him down but the salvation army came thru with flying colors, later on he was employed at a boat yard as a carpenter a large boat came in for repairs he found out it was owned by a red cross district manager and that was his only job my dad figured if he can have a boat of that size on his salary he didnt need any donation from him.

Absolutely! Almost every WWII or Korean War vet I have ever worked with or known, including 3 uncles and my father in law, had nothing but unprintable language for the Red Cross. They all complained about having to pay for coffee and donuts, even in the rear area of combat zones, while back home the Red Cross posters asking for donations implied that those items were given out free to servicemen.
