Nagin is not going to come out of this unscathed but he is not at the top of my list. His Homeland Security chief and the Police Chief are number one and two on the list in that order. I would want to know exactly what happened after the 2004 Ivan debacle before knowing where to place Nagin on the list. I think there might be one or two ACLU lawyers that are ahead of him. Still, even if there were lawsuits behind the indecision, Nagin was the Mayor and sometimes situations require a "damn the lawyers and do the right thing" response.
Nagin will be the fall guy in this for the Dems. He was a Republican before he switched affiliations and ran for NO mayor. Leftwingers viewed his candidacy as a Republican trick. He even endorsed Jindal for governor over Blanco. He's not beloved in Dem circles and will end up taking the fall for other die hard Dems are are just as responsible for this fiasco.
An interesting contrast to me is the mayor worrying about legal stuff before the hurricane but then expecting the feds to break laws after the hurricane to send troops in. Hypocrisy.
I would concur.
I'm betting that the trial lawyers will sue everybody with deep pockets and any possible involvement in this fiasco: FEMA, Federal Gov, DOD, State of Louisiana, City of NOLA, Fox News, the AP, contractors who worked on the levees, companies that built I-10 through LA, bus manufacturers, tire companies, and maybe even Harry Conick Jr. just to leave no stone unturned. There will be a torrent of legal paper flowing out of the Delta region. I'm staying out of there until the whole thing dies down in a few years.
And Blanco? Who didn't go until Bush went?
