I'll be damned. The welfare checks did keep people in the city.

Will they admit now that welfare as it is today is a trap?

In this case, welfare did trap these people. They were so intent on getting that welfare check on the 1st that they failed to heed warnings to evacuate the city.

However, we know President Bush warned Gov. Bozo Blanco days before the hurricane het to evacuate, and we know the Nat. Hurricane Center Director warned Mayor Numnut Nagin to evacuate the city when he noticed Numnut Nagin failing to heed the initial warnings.

I bet the TV stations and radio stations' recordings will be seized to see how the word was given to the people. We know Numnut Nagin failed to utilize the massive number of busses he had at his disposal, but did he plead with the radio and TV stations to get the people out?

From what I heard, Numnut Nagin admitted that he did not feel it wise to get all the people out of the inner city. Can someone find that quote? Nagin did say he thought it was a bad idea to get all the people out--some lame excuse he gave and somebody here has to have a link to that.
