I'm giving my support to the Salvation Army, thanks. I have yet to trust the Red Cross again after the way they screwed around with 9/11 donations.

if you did give to the Red Cross you must specify it is to go to Hurricane Katrina relief. Otherwise they could use that money in other areas as they did for 9-11. I am donating to them through my company. The company is matching dollar for dollar.

so thanks for supporting the Salvation Army.

I have a lot of respect for the Salvationists.

I regret to say that the Red Cross in Australia, after the Bali bombing, behaved in a scandalous manner. They were the official source for Bali emergency aid - millions in donations poured in from all over the country.

A year later, journalists did an investigation, asking how much of the funds had been spent on victims. It turned out - almost none. The money was being hoarded, to be donated to a "research fund" owned by ... the Red Cross.

They were completely arrogant, pointing out that they were the Red Cross, and their integrity was beyond question. Also, they said that they "usually" dispersed funds in this fashion - i.e. gave little to the cause that the money was raised for.

We gave to the Salvation Army. I've seen their presence in NO several times (their trucks pulling through in the background.)

However, the Red Cross guy on Fox last night was trying to sell some line because they aren't in the city. He said they weren't allowed in because it was too dangerous. Well if the Salvation Army is in there, I highly doubt that's the truth.

re: I have yet to trust the Red Cross again after the way they screwed around with 9/11 donations

My Dad, who is long since deceased, was in the Navy during WWII. For 40 plus years I heard him, and my Mother, say they would never have any respect for, or trust in, the Red Cross. I asked them why, several times, but they would only say that it had to do with my Dad needing emergency leave to get home when his Mom passed away. They were never bitter toward the Red Cross, just always said they would never trust or respect the organization.
