Remember folks....these people are OUR people....they live right here in the good old USA.....we owe support IMO at least at the level of the Tsunami victims.....even if we have to hold our noses a bit...

I agree. All it takes is bands of small pockets, like we have in Iraq, that disrupt the good. in this case these pockets were terriozing people because they were white. senseless murders. if it were a dozen guys in sheets... what would they be reporting.
10K body bags have been requested by the recovery agencies. not reported because they want to keep it quite. Vitter did hint at those numbers earlier today. It sucks because many of these lives could have been saved.
I agree fully. I expect that when the pumps get going, they will have to clear the corpses from the intakes, unless they wait a few more days and let them settle. New Orleans will reek of death brought about by incompetence for a long time to come.
We will likely never know how many have perished, just the confirmed dead and some of the missing.
Imho, all the race-baiting, all the blaming the Feds, is just an attempt to take the spotlight off of the incompetence of the local authorities.
No doubt, some remained behind solely for the purpose of looting. Some, for whatever reason could not get out. It is the latter who have suffered unnecessarily due to the local authorities' mismanagement of the situation.
I too agree with you. I am still waiting to hear from my aunt in Florida if her family made it out (distant relatives of mine).

I have a lot of respect for the Salvationists.
I regret to say that the Red Cross in Australia, after the Bali bombing, behaved in a scandalous manner. They were the official source for Bali emergency aid - millions in donations poured in from all over the country.
A year later, journalists did an investigation, asking how much of the funds had been spent on victims. It turned out - almost none. The money was being hoarded, to be donated to a "research fund" owned by ... the Red Cross.
They were completely arrogant, pointing out that they were the Red Cross, and their integrity was beyond question. Also, they said that they "usually" dispersed funds in this fashion - i.e. gave little to the cause that the money was raised for.

See I've heard these stories too. they most likely paid to have the two Italian journalist released from Iraq with funds raised in the US.
Time to call for a full investigation.
I have had CNN on for an hour or so (only news channel I have) and they have played the video twice already. They did show the disclamer from NBC, but in my opinion they are only serving to fan the flames by showing it.
Researching ways to hang onto the donated dough?
These are the loud mouths who get on the news. The quiet patient people remain invisible to the news. Don't let a band of rottens smear the whole city.

An investigation will only reveal what we already know, ie, only 40% of every dollar donated goes to actual relief.

The Red Cross is a vile and dispicable organization and has been for a long time. During war they sold coffee and donuts to troops while others handed them out. I know of people who were charged for the "help" they received. The ICRC denounced our choice of bomb when we liberated Afghanistan. There are many more horror stories, but the fact is I wouldn't give one cent to the Red Cross if my life depended on it.

Literally. If you consider all the dead bodies that will be rotting inside attics and other places, the smell of death will be everywhere in the city of New Orleans.
I remember an account of the Civil War "Battle of the Wilderness." For two years, people could smell the battlefield from several miles away.
Unburied, decomposing corpses create a horendous stench.
Add to that the aftermath of sewage and filth from the city having been flooded and you have the makings of an uninhabitable environment triggering instant nausea.
You know we have got to stand together and stop this. Lies and hatred are being spewed on the airwaves against our government and our President.
I'm hearing doubts from Republicans because they are soaking up all the media bias and mudslinging. We all need to speak out not just in emails to the media, but to all the people around us. People are starting to be swayed by all these lies. This is damn serious and if we don't move to stop it it's going to spiral out of control.
Don't agree. Chris Matthews or Dan Rather at 78rpm couldn't have hit more Dem talking points in 90 seconds than this rapper. Not enough military or National Guardsmen to help out because they're fighting in Iraq? Aside from being a false claim (over 80% of our armed forces are stateside), in a perfect world, it could affect blue-state high school bans on recruiting.
We gave to the Salvation Army. I've seen their presence in NO several times (their trucks pulling through in the background.)
However, the Red Cross guy on Fox last night was trying to sell some line because they aren't in the city. He said they weren't allowed in because it was too dangerous. Well if the Salvation Army is in there, I highly doubt that's the truth.
Well, alright. If you don't want to donate for the people how about something to help out the animals? You could go to the web sites for Noah's Wish or the Houston SPCA if you want to do that.
