The charges that the President cut funding for the levee projects because of the war in Iraq, and that caused this catastrophe was debunked --
"These (projects) were not funded at the full ability of the Corps of Engineers to execute the project," said Lt. Gen. Carl Strock, commander of the Army Corps of Engineers. "But the important question is, 'Would that have made a difference?' And my assessment is, no, it would not."
Now, it appears that it was Gov. Blanco who did not have her National Guard deliver food and water for 3-4 days.

Before serving in the states top office, Governor Blanco completed two terms as Lieutenant Governor. As the states second-highest official, she supervised the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism
WOW! That make me ready to be a Governor....not
The state needs to start a recall on this lemon.

From the
NG website, dated 8/30/05..........
As of 8 a.m. today, almost 3,800 Louisiana Army and Air Guard members were on duty to remove debris, provide security and shelter, distribute water, food and ice, and offer medical and law-enforcement support, National Guard Bureau officials said.

Thanks for the timeline. It wasn't until Thursday night that Blanco committed the LNG? Who was in the helicopters picking people up off their roofs for the last three days?

One problem with evacuating that many people you also have to know where the heck they are going and have facilities for them. The storm was huge and to get out of the way those being evacuated would have to have been taken west probably into Texas. That would have required coordination with Texas. I wonder what plan FEMA had in writing for this kind of situation since it was an expected problem for a city located below sea level in a hurricane area. Are the FEMA plans available to the public on line

WT????? The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.
Louisiana Gov Kathleen B. Blanco controls both the Louisiana National Guard and the state Homeland Security Department. Through both entities she is keeping the Red Cross out of this desperate city.
She furthermore announced in her news conference Friday night that she was immediately forming a new state based Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation and requesting that contributions be sent there for the relief effort (Send the money to HER new foundation instead of the Red Cross????)

If the Coast Guard did that, they will claim that the President should have had the Coast Guard also deliver water and food.

That was LaNG or LaANG. Reread, from what I heard Blanco had not fully activated the NG.
I'll be generous....A lot of the LaNG probably had bad situations themselves in the wake of the hurricane. Calling our the NG is the governor's responsibility:asking for Federal assistance is also the governor's call. In both instances Blanco was late. Mayor Nagin in New Orleans was overwhelmed or asleep.
