Outlaw guitarist/songwriter "Doc" Hearl hails from "parts unknown", but, he honed his stage skills in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia in the early 80's, not only as an excellent guitar slinger but as a gunslinger as well, often giving exhibitions of his quick draw and trick shot skills with his ever present six guns.
Teamed with Virginia native son Bobby Hamilton, The Hearl-Hamilton Band fused Country, Rock and Jazz in an appealing mix of "progressive country" that was ahead of it's time. I had the opportunity and great pleasure to work with the band in 1984-85, subbing for my friend, drummer Randy Caffe.
"Doc" has since moved on to Louisiana to work and record with Gary Miles & The Smoke City Band in New Orleans, Gary White & the Louisiana Music Factory and finally settling in Nashville where he works as a session player, a songwriter and producer as well as a sideline in professional photography. His most recent project was writing, producing and performing on the CD
Both Barrels by Michael Mason.
Here's some tracks from the mid-80s with 'ol Drumbo on tubs for a live radio broadcast on Norfolk's WCMS (Where Country Music Swings).
