" The situation is worsening every minute. It is a catastrophe beyond any we have seen as a nation on our soil."
One of the women in my office finally made contact today with her family in NO.
I trust her completely and she reports that her family stayed in their home and while they did not get much flood damage-they are afraid to leave their home and search for rescue.
Nightfall brings gangs of armed thugs who ransack every house. They are protecting their home with a shotgun and are terrified.
Her brother is a paranoid schizophrenic , living in a group home in NO.
The home released all the residents without their meds- they have no idea where the brother is and are very worried about how he will act without medication.
Prayers for your friend's family and brother. I pray that they get the relief they need, and that meanwhile they are given the physical strength and stamina, and faith & hope, sufficient to keep them going.
My nephew, the New Orleans policeman finally got a call out to his sister in Boston at 4:30 this morning. He said that he had been running all over the city chasing looters. One of his uncles my husband's sister's husband stayed in his uptown New Orleans house. As far as we know uptown New Orleans was not flooded but his phone stopped working a few days ago. My nephew has been told he is there and will check on him. I am not surprised at all that there are armed thugs rampaging through homes in the better neighborhoods. The better neighborhoods uptown are often only a few blocks away from really bad neighborhoods. Those who have been to New Orleans know this is true, unusual I guess, but the reality of New Orleans. I have not seen much reporting about what is going on in Uptown New Orleans, has anyone else? This is the University area and the area around Audubon Park.
