Don't know one kind of coal from another, but it all burns.
Bituminous is high-sulfur coal. The pollution from a town full of people burning it would be really nasty. Power plants have scrubbers, but private coal burners would not. Anthracite is comparatively clean-burning, and was used in decades past for home heating in the northeast U.S. "Blue coal--as for it by name."
