I am very familiar. I lived in rural south missisippi all my life and moved to texas 5 years ago. My family survived Camille and are very storm savvy (at least on one side). That doesn't take away fromt he fact that these people are suffering and have shared their water/food with neighbors/strangers who didn't have any and now they are low. That is how people in Miss small towns are.
You listed the need for gas to get to ATM machines. Cash on hand is another basic item on the hurricane list.
