Had I had a B52, I would have pulled the "20 year old bus driver" trick, about 48 hours ago.

Not sure this info is out yet...

The bus accident today was caused by one of the super dome passengers going up to the bus driver and demanding that he stop the bus.

Getting the water down to sea level naturally, while you fix the pumps would be a big help.

What do you think of the idea of trying to use river water to wash away some of the sludge? Would that have any benefits or would the extra time underwater do more harm than the dilution of the nastiness would do good?

You know how an arch works, right?

Imagine a 3 dimensional arch and you have a dome, same principle holding it up.

Now jiggle the keystone, the way we watched the plates jiggling on NBC.

Yup...it was that close.

If anyone saw NBC Dateline tonight, at least they helped out some of the stranded and refugees, including people walking out on the highway.

I'm not concerned about the pollution. I think the Gulf can handle it without noticing after 200 years of drinking the entire Mississippi.

Does anyone know what kind of name Nagin is?

It's short for "Not AGAIN!" :-)

Prayers for ALL!

I think it could be both.

If you like local music, here's another bit of news that makes me sad.

Lafayette, LA guitarist CC Adcock had a concert scheduled at the New Orleans House of Blues tonight. I really enjoy his music and truly hope that he was safe at home in Lafayette when this happened and not inside the city of New Orleans, where he frequently performs.

While CC Adcock's record company has not yet updated his tour schedule to remove future New Orleans dates, you still might want to check out this page and follow the links from there:

Well, that's it for me -- I can't stay awake any longer. Good night, y'all!

FEMA head: Lawlessness not anticipated

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The head of the federal disaster relief agency said Friday it's "heartbreaking and very, very frustrating" to witness the virtual anarchy in hurricane-ravaged New Orleans and defended the Bush administration's response.

Interviewed on several network morning news shows, Michael Brown, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, blamed emergency assistance delivery problems on "the total lack of communications, the inability to hear and have good intelligence on the ground about what was actually occurring there."

Brown appeared the morning after the mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, charged that administration officials "don't have a clue" about what's going on in the devastated city that long has been among the nation's premier tourist attractions.

"People are getting the help they need," Brown asserted on NBC's "Today" show. "This is an ongoing disaster. This disaster didn't just end when Katrina left."

But Brown also acknowledged that little in the government's preparedness plan took into account the likelihood of lawlessness in such dire straits.

"Before the hurricane struck I came down here personally and rode the storm out in Baton Rouge," he said. "We had all of our rescue teams, the medical teams, pre-deployed, ready to go. ... The lawlessness, the crime that is occurring, did surprise us."

Appearing on ABC's "Good Morning America," the FEMA director said he "never thought I'd see" the lawlessness that has overtaken the city and interrupted emergency relief efforts. "It's heartbreaking and very, very frustrating to me from a broad operational perspective," he said.

***And they FIRED people last summer when FEMA planned an excersise that included minority civil unrest!!!!
Media said it was Racially Insensitive!

Guess that guy is feeling vindicated now, eh?

OK, why don't you volunteer to be the official FEMA media watcher. Most of the other people were scheduling trucks, overseeing rescue mission, making sure there was fuel for the helicopters, food for the flight crews, planning evacuations, getting water and food to thousands of people who were where they were supposed to be, trying to evacuate hospitals, arranging for call up of the various state NG troops from other states, getting fuel to the convoy of trucks that were stranded, taking care of the people in Gulf Port, Biloxi, Pass Christian, the entire coast of Alabama, trying to figure out how to get trucks into places where the bridges have been totally wiped out. I guess perhaps they really should have taken the time to watch TV so they could find out what they should have found out the first day if someone from FOX or CNN had simply bothered to seek out the command and control center like anyone with an IQ with more than 2 digits would have.

Anderson Cooper's mother is Gloria Vanderbilt.

That could explain some of his "high strung" behavior lately.

;-)

He was acting like a trapped snake interviewing Trent Lott yesterday. Trent, much to his credit, was quite the gentleman.

on one of cable news stations - not sure which one it was as I was flipping through the channels. If it is true we will hear more about it tomorrow.

What I meant by "if it is out yet" - I meant if it had been posted here on FR yet. (sorry I didn't mean for my post to sound like I had a inside source for the info.)

G'nite
