"It took four days for FEMA to get its first people into South Florida after Andrew" - I can't remember any reasonable person berating Clinton for FEMA's "slow" response after Andrew.

Reasonable - and realistic - people don't wait for, or expect, the federal government to save them. It's a bureaucracy; by definition, it is slow, cumbersome, inefficient and corrupt. It matters not who is in power; the faces my change, but the playbook stays the same.

Clinton got pounded after Andrew. The looting was massive and if you don't remember the houses that weren't blown down were burned down by their owners.

Miami was much worse then NO and I remember at Homestead AFB the military looted the BX and Shoppette because it took 30 days for help from the outside to arrive.

And after Andrew citizens were doing everything they could to help each other. I was in Broward but of course Dade County was hit way worse. And there wasn't the flooding like in New Orleans. But people should always have at least a 4 or 5 day supply of food and water, batteries, etc., just like they tell us. And of course, don't shoot at the rescuers.
