I read that last night, and went to sleep crying, as a mother, thinking of the devastation that little boy has seen, only to have his dog taken away.

Some on this thread throw out the predictable "It's just an animal. Save the people!!"

That's all fine and dandy, but the story about Snowball is not about a dog. It is about a little boy.

So screw all of you who think saving these animals is about putting people second. Saving the life of a pet, and reuniting them with their owners, is about people. You think after having lost everything they have known it would not mean the world to these people to get their pets back?

My faith has been restored in the members of this forum. At first the only immediate responses were from those who lacked the intelligence to understand that this post's only intention was to highlight other agency's efforts ( in this tragedy and never once saying or indicating that saving human lives should be abandoned to save the animals. Thanks to all those "intelligent" people in this forum.

I'm a mother, too. I'm sorry my child has had to sacrifice 3 pets fleeing a foreign country in turmoil, but we're alive, and that's all that matters. Our family survived. We suffer PTSD, and we're sad about our pets, but we thank God every day that we got out alive and we're together. Yeah, I miss my cat that had to be on my computer monitor or on my neck, and my GSD that was a genius of a dog, but I'd miss my child a lot more, or any other family member. It's been up close and personal for me. This kid will get over it. How many kids won't that will lose family. People have to come first. Believe me, I'm a softie- my parents threatened to kick me out in college if I brought home one more pet.

I remember my mother, an elementery school teacher, coming home after "Jaws" was released. I remember her being in shock that the kids were so upset that the dog was killed, but could care less about the humans. Somehow, they could all feel for the pets, but screw the people. I know now it's a psychological defense mechanism. Yes, I love animals, but people are dying. They take priority.

the story about Snowball is not about a dog. It is about a little boy.

thank you that's why I am trying to find out more about this dog and his owner

I did send an e-mail to Humane Society and I will send one to Animal Planet and Fox, CNN etc.

They may pick it up as a human interest story
After all the terrible news I imagine that a story of this little boy being reunited with his dog would help bring some hope back
