And no, you're not allowed to drive an SUV either. That would be wasting gas that could be put into a hybrid car.

Anyone found driving a car that gets less than 30mpg during the gas crisis should be prosecuted.

Screw the pets. Human lives are more important and are what everyone should be focusing on and donating money to help now -- not wasting it on animals.

We can hope. I'm a little passionate and upset at the moment knowing that by the grace of God there go I, being a nurse and hearing what's gone on in the hospitals. I've been in a minor crisis compared to this, and it's heartbreaking knowing what the medical personnel must be going through, trying to save lives, and keep each other alive at the same time. I know there are horribly hard descisions that will haunt them of who can be kept alive, who do they have to let go, have they made the right choice, if 5 more minutes would I have saved their life. It's hard to talk about pets having btdt. Sometimes it sucks to be a nurse. Again, it's heartbreaking. And I feel like I can barely make it because of short staffing in my regular job. God help the medical personnel in the gulf that manned the fort. Hard to feel terribly sorry for Fido when they're making descisons of who is going to live.

Do you have any suggestions for how to go about trying to find that little boy's dog, Snowball? I know there are thousands of animals and worried owners needing help, but this little boy sounds like he was utterly devastated and needlessly so. Do you know yet what the system is for dealing with animals that are being confiscated in connection with the evacuation of the Superdome? Or any ideas how to go about finding out? Reuniting the boy and dog is not realistic at this time, but just getting word to him that the dog is safe would no doubt be a huge help.

I don't want to make a bigger issue out of this than necessary, but...

it's on threads like this that you really see the extent to which the conservative movement has been eroded from within. For so long, liberals had the world convinced that they were the only ones with "compassion." They wore their bleeding hearts on their sleeves without so much as a whit of concern about results. And as we conservatives were constantly excoriated for our "lack of compassion," we began to develop a mistrust of the very concept.

And so you see some people in our movement today who appear to go out of their way to appear as callous, cold, and--frankly--uncompassionate as possible.

I have a lot more sympathy for these pets than the human waste out there looting, raping and murdering. Those people are the real animals.

Some of those dying people would be greatly comforted if they could be assured that a beloved pet is safe. It's often a lot easier to save a healthy pet, than a severely ill person, in a situation like this.

Sorry, charlie. I'm donating to Noah's Wish. Hope that doesn't offend you too much.

If that little boy had a choice, I'm sure he would of stayed with his dog (I would). The trauma he will suffer from that incident with the dog is all he will remember and will outweigh any trauma he feels losing his home. Some people will never understand the connection.

"I wouldn't -- he might start tossing the animals out of the boat, or eating them."

You owe me a new keyboard and a new monitor!

An animal's life is worth more than the life of those who are looting and pillaging and raping, IMO.

I will not argue that point!

I don't see anything inappropriate about allowing somebody who is carrying a dog or cat to be allowed in a boat as long as it isn't full of people. But the kindest thing they can do for dogs and cats running wild or trapped on floating debris is to carry a gun to put them out of their misery.

No, you just have to inflict your point of view on everyone in public.

What are you, some anti-speech advocate?

In the days to come, people and supplies will be arriving en masse to New Orleans, and will each bring their special talents. ALL are needed.

And when there are enough resources that all the stranded people can be rescued, then efforts should be made to help the animals.

If some choose to donate to a group like Noah's Wish, then let them do so in peace.

For the thousandth time --- I am not criticizing donations.
