"Not a single tourist caught in the tsunami was mugged. Now with all this happening in the U.S. we can easily see where the civilized part of the world's population is."

I don't know that I believe not a single tourist was mugged, but he does have a point. In defense of the US I'd point out that New Orleans is a high density democrat area, and a high percentage of democrats don't believe in moral absolutes.

The tsunami area was very much a dangerous area for people to be in. Rapes and muggings occured and, I am sure, killings. However, the news coverage there is much more controlled than here, plus their news agencies are not trying to make the government look bad so they not only don't report some things that happen they certainly don't exagerate them as our MSM is doing right now.

NO, on a good day, is even more dangerous than Los Angeles. My dad, who was a towboat engineer, has been to NO many times and has told me some of the crazy things that go on. Basically, 3-6 people are murdered there everyday, and that's on a weekday. So when you hear on the news that rioters shot one cop and two bystanders, that's pretty much run-of-the mill for NO. All we're seeing is the criminal element that was always prevalent there, it's just that the reporters now have a good reason to be there filming it. As has been mentioned, we aren't seeing this in Mississippi and Alabama where, frankly, some of the most civilized people in human history live.

Highlander,

I don't know where you live but if you don't have your head in you @$$ and have lived in a major southern city you would believe that tourists have been raped and beaten. Without personal protection, the police, and a sense of law and order certain people are prey. It is tough for Yankees (anyone who does not live in the South)to understand but they learn it real quick here in Memphis.

But THEIR CORRUPT government wanted to put a TAX on trucks meant for emergency use.

Are supplies meant for tsunami victims still rotting on Sri Lankan docks?
