Allow me to respectfully disagree. Other States are able to handle hurricane relief in an efficient and orderly manner. I defy anyone to tell me that the State of Louisiana has handled this crisis in an effective manner. The erstwhile Governor decided yesterday that her presence was necessary at a Jesse Jackson presser, where she appeared with the Reverend and the CEO of Citgo. Neither one of these people is going to do a thing to alleviate the immediate crisis. Jesse Jackson is not going to save her butt.
She should have declared martial law on Tuesday. She should have sent the National Guard into New Orleans on Tuesday. I have yet to hear a word from the commander of the Louisiana National Guard (if there is one). What is needed after this crisis is an investigation into what the State and City did with its disaster relief money.
Responsibility now falls to the feds, and like it or not, Bush will personally be held accountable for their performance. It isn't fair, but it comes with the territory of being President.
