Well isnt it just a shame to say that countless lives have already been lost? Those who are left could obviously not get out. End of the month means no money, cause it happens to me all of the time. People need to be more realistic about the situation. Not everyone looting is some type of thug or criminal. Just people trying to survive. You have to admit that much eh?

So basically if the tables were ever turned, you would be the one sitting at home waiting on the government to come rescue you. Ill taking my rifle over to the local walmart and making damn sure that my gene pool lives on.

"Those who are left could obviously not get out."

No, many chose to stay. There are stories of them. Don't lie. Or maybe you're not lying and you're just ignorant of the facts. Let me know which is which.

The people who chose to stay but could have left made it worse for those that wanted to leave but couldn't.

"you would be the one sitting at home waiting on the government to come rescue you"

No, I wouldn't. I chose - I made the decision - to prepare myself ahead of time. Especially if I have many days notice.

An earthquake, a terrorist attack, other instant disasters -then there's a reason to be stranded. An oncomoming hurrincane that the whole world knew about for days isn't the same thing. And again, people chose to putz around because they didn't think it could happen to them.

It's really hard to see the video and pics of people with armloads of clothing, boxes of Nikes, breaking into hotels and private homes and then find an excuse for it. There is a permanent criminal class in NO, and they are in control of much of the city.

Check out this blog of an eyewitness currently living in an office building, mgno.com. What he describes is stunning, especially reports from NOPD officers on the ground.

No rational person is going to deny some hapless poor person stuck in such a situation basics like food, water, medical supplies. There should have been some sort of emergency plan in place to commandeer stores and to deploy police and others there to distribute such necesssities. Apparently there was not - thanks in large part to the widespread corruption there. There was even an interview today with an older man who stated that he was a Christian and how he felt terrible about going into an (already looted drugstore) and taking some basic necessities to survive. He hoped that he could repay the owner. one day. That fellow ain't the problem.

In such chaos and anarchy, the real problem is that the thug element rapidly takes over and leaves next to nothing for those truly in need of the necessities. Some desperate person walking out with food, etc. wouldn't be shot be shot - and you know it. You're being quite disingenous here. It's the thug element we're talking about. They're the ones carrying out the jewelry, the TVs, etc. (How in the hell is a plasma TV going to be of use in a place that won't have electricity for months?) Asking that question, and answering it honestly, requires a making a judgement about the looter's character - something that is the sin-of-no-forgiveness to all liberals.

Anyone firing a weapon at rescue personnel should be gunned down on the the spot - no mercy. Roving gangs of thugs - who've already carried out rapes and murders - should be dealt with ruthlessly. Shot on the spot. No trial, no lawyers, no ACLU, no SPLC. I'll be interested to see if you come up with an excuse for some nihilistic POS firing at a rescue boat or trying to loot a hospital where they're trying to keep patients alive.

Yup. Don't forget the pallet load of liquor, some jewelry and a flatscreen TV.

Truthfully, I suspect that, if you couldn't evacuate, as soon as it was over, you would round up the family, put what food and cash you had together, and march out of town. At least that's what I'd try to do.

Here in Atlanta, we have a co-worker taking care of fifty (50!) relatives from LA. Our business group is pitchin' in for the food and other stuff; wouldn't be surprised if the company itself pitched in. We're also running supplies to hospitals in Jacksonville and Pascagoula (they're customers of ours and can still help patients, but they're short on supplies and food).
