He started by asking her why the federal government hasn't apologized and to her credit she didn't bite. She thanked President Bush for his efforts and those of GHW Bush and Clinton. She thanked the Congress for their extraordinary session. He chided her for thanking a bunch of politicians and she rebuked him. Told him she was from NO and her father was a mayor of NO. She clearly did not like his asinine remarks and maintained a non political attitude. Good for her.
That's about as maturely as she has behaved throughout this whole horror show - maybe she and other Dims are finally starting to realize where all this hysterical finger-pointing is going to lead, and that there will be plenty of blame to go around everywhere if some people in DC won't pull their heads out of their asses and start doing something that might actually help.
The media's totally out of control now, doing absolutely nothing but making this entire episode infinitely worse. The hysteria and tunnel vision that doesn't allow them to see anything but how to use this to get Bush is going to cause the situation in New Orleans to become completely irretrievable. Leaders from both parties, Democrat and Republican, need to tell them in no uncertain terms to cool it, or else they're going to have the military remove them from the scene until they grow up.
Landrieu is hillery in the making. She's very savvy, politically.
Did you notice how she mentioned "President Clinton and former President Bush"?
Maybe Mary hasn't noticed, but both of them qualify as "former."
Actually, I've been fairly impressed with Mary these past few days, in terms of crediting President Bush from Day One.
I get physically sick just watching these videos coming in on the cable channels, cannot begin to imagine actually being there. It's a town I have always loved, with all its warts. Just too sad.
