there's no way that theirs 10,000 dead in NO. The city wasn't even hit the bad by the storm, all this damage was caused by the levees breaking not the hurricane.

I saw footage of shep after the hurricane standing in downtown NO and only a few shudders were blown off and some windows broken.

I was asking somebody else about MS. I would still expect the toll in NO to be high. But who knows how many at this point?

People can die in floods, too. The deaths are expected to be drownings, or people who died in their attics, or who died from dehydration, illness, or murder.

I hope the number isn't 10,000, but it will be more than a thousand.

There will be dead in the flooded houses probably. Dead in attics where they went to escape the floods and couldn't get out. Then you have the dead from exhaustion, murder.

Whne they say "New Orleans," I think that they also mean the parrishes around New Orleans. The parrishes to the south and east of NO were, litteraly, wiped off the map.

Besides, if you assume that 100K were left in the city when it flooded (9' of water, mind you), it is not unreasonable to think that 10% died in the flood.

***The waters rose and rose and rose, so people went up into their attics. The waters continued to rise though, even up into the attics. That's going to account for a lot of dead bodies right there.

I wouldn't be shocked if that number happens.

there were still thousands of people trapped in attics when the snipers were shooting at the swift water rescue folks...

they have cancelled 10 ambulances from Phoenix.....it is going to be a recovery operation soon
