Doctors Without Borders (French MSF) Won't Help Americans In NO
MSF telephone personnel ^ | 9/1/2005 | angkor

I called Doctors Without Borders [Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)} today, asking what help they would be providing to the New Orleans (and elsewhere) Katrina victims.

I had donated $500 to MSF just a few weeks ago.

The answer, summarized, was "We don't provide help to developed countries."

Meaning, MSF will provide nothing, ZERO, to help the victims of Katrina. The answer was quite unambiguous.

Fool me once, fool me twice.

I'm going to ask them for a total refund of my (recent) donation to MSF after Labor Day, and will make MSF's life extremely miserable if they don't refund it.

Finally, they're disgusting. I've seen MSF do excellent work in other countries.

Yes, French.

But I have personally seent them do good work in other countries.

As for the USA, their "aid" seems to be "F'em."

Whatever you do, don't give them your bank account number,
you'll be getting E-mails from Niger for years.

You've obviously not gotten outside of your own zip code since childhoood.

MSF does good work in many of the countries I've visited.

They are doctors, and they help people out, which is good. Unfortunately, they are also extreme left-wing bigots, constantly making statements to the press that contribute to the anti-American campaign, which is bad. I wouldn't donate to them. There are other groups who also help people in the third world without all that negative ideology and America-bashing.

"We don't provide help to developed countries."

Well, thank goodness they can still help the French then.

Their mission statement indicates that they help in lesser developed nations. Don't you think those folks need it more than us? We've got the resources to deal with this and we should be thankful.

And we need their help........why?

We don't need their help. However, it would be beneficial to have the additional medical personnel.

I don't think we need to allow unlicensed physicians to practice in this country. While, I am sure they are licensed somewhere, doctors in this country can't practice in a different state where they aren't licensed.

That might be why they don't come and honestly we don't need them, if we were going to bend the rules, we would bend it for other doctors licensed in other states.

Kind of seems to me that you are setting them up and expected them not to help... I actually think their response was pretty reasonable. Where they are presently working there is nothing. By the time they get here things will probably be under control. If they did come it would be in the nature of a publicity exercise to prove they 'cared' about us. They are needed more elsewhere.

There is a lot of help suiting up and heading south. Thousands of out-of-state national guard and emergency personnel. That will be followed by all of the NGO's, Red Cross, Salvation Army etc.

We are better prepared to handle this kind of disaster than anybody else in the world. It makes no sense for somebody to send a few pallets of Evian from across the world.

Doctors Without Borders: "We don't provide help to developed countries."

Sounds like they need to redraw their maps with borders!

From an objective viewpoint, I'd say it wouldn't make much sense for an organization like that to expend resources in a country that is fully capable of taking care of itself.

From a personal viewpoint, I wouldn't want those commie bastards within 100 miles of US territory anyway. And that was BEFORE I knew they were French.

A client of my mother's died a month ago.

He was gay and was quite liberal - and was an attorney. He also worked hard at helping his clients find tax loopholes and shelters.

His family asked others to remember this guy by sending a memorial contribution to Doctors Without Borders.

I suspect my mom will be more than a little peeved when she hears this.
