Flood Victims need help in Montgomery Co.
The Conroe Salvation Army is helping over 600 families that are in hotels here in Conroe and Willis plus feeding another 400 all from Louisiana. They are running out of supplies and money. How I found out about this I just took some money down for the flood victims thinking that it would go to Houston and the Salvation Lobby was full of people from Louisiana so I asked what I could do, and been busy ever since. We need help here in Conroe
Just wanted to put those knee pads on once again and start doing what I do best, caring for others

I agree: there shouldn't be one empty church building as long as there are people in those large shelters.
I'm conflicted between the need to protect our borders from the terrorists who might take advantage of the chaos and the belief that there ought to be lines of cars looping from the borders of the devastation to our homes and churches.
There's too much "process."
I heard that the hospitals are being emptied -- but the people are being taken to staging areas at the Superdome. That's ridiculous! There should be hospital to hospital tranfers, and transportation should be direct.
Not trivial at all... that could be very important and helpful to someone!

I just heard Franklin Graham of Samaritan's Purse,(Billy Graham's son), on Larry King, and he called for each church to adopt ten families. He said the call should come forth from the denomination headquarters.
Just asking: Is Red Cross corrupt? Nothing really goes to the consumers but to 'administration?'
What a great bunch of suggestions.
And I can't help but think that if they used the reporters' trucks, they could move quite a few people. And they'd decrease the strain on services.
I agree, this is a concern, and I hope those in power have their eye on it. I have read that the philosphy of the ROP toward the "great Satan" is death by a thousand cuts. The USA had a serious blow with long reaching economic consquences after 9/11, and now this. Also, I think the lack of an efficient and organized response by the local and federal governments, FEMA, etc. is very distressing.
And please don't forget the four-legged victims as well. Houston SPCA is bursting with rescued pets.

Anybody know how to post it? I keep crashing my browser when I try to post any part.
I agree. Donate to the Salvation Army. I am in California, too far to take a family in I would think, but I can give money and lots of prayers.
Texas DHS has this:
Texas Department of State Health Services
NEWS RELEASE
September 1, 2005
Texas WIC Program Opened to Katrina Refugees
Qualifying residents of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama forced to relocate to Texas by Hurricane Katrina will be eligible to receive WIC benefits here, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), which administers the federal supplemental nutrition program in Texas.
Refugees who had WIC benefits in those states, and other qualifying Katrina refugees who want to begin receiving WIC benefits, can contact the nearest local WIC clinic or call the Texas WIC Program at 1-800-942-3678 for local WIC clinic locations. There are some 700 local WIC clinics in Texas.
Officials are working on ways to serve WIC-eligible refugees housed in large shelters and unable to get to a local WIC clinic to register.
WIC provides nutrition education, food, formula and other services for low-income pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children under 5. DSHS officials said most if not all the refugees in these categories would meet the programs financial eligibility requirements.
WIC clients are issued an identity card and vouchers by local WIC clinics. The vouchers are redeemable for certain food items at some 2,500 stores, or vendors, throughout the state. Food packages vary depending on client category, but include infant formula, milk, cheese, cereal, juice, eggs, peanut butter and beans.
DSHS also announced that the 2,500 WIC-vendor stores in Texas may accept vouchers previously issued in Louisiana or Alabama to WIC clients who have evacuated to Texas.
WIC is the popular name for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.

NOTE: The Texas Department of Health (TDH) has merged with other agencies and is now part of the new Department of State Health Services (DSHS), resulting in the following e-mail address format change for all employees: firstname.lastname@dshs.state.tx.us.
The clean-up, when the media are gone, will be the true test of courage. Two strong arms and an open heart are the main ingredients for success.
Did you know these people or were they just in need and you took them in? G-d bless you!!!

Here's the list of "needs" I've come up with, so far.
If you want to bump, maybe you could add to the list or prioritize it.
Although, I am impressed with TonkinGulfYachtClub's details on how far $100 goes for the Salvation Army.
