is there NO PLAN for evacuation?

Mrs. BJC and I go to Nawlins at least once a year. Evac routes are clearly marked on highways. We got some free maps from the tourist center that also gave directions for evac. If these people wanted out they could've gotten out.

From what I've heard the mayor didn't call for an evacuation soon enough AND didn't change inbound lanes to outbound for the evac. But still, I would figure someone living there would know where to go.

" If these people wanted out they could've gotten out.<<

I agree. But "to hell with them, they got what's coming to them, let them die and rot where they are" is not an option.

IMHO

In fact--according to Monday's Baton Rouge newspaper it was the President that was on the phone before Katrina hit urging LA's Governor and NO's Mayor to order a mandatory evacuation.

I keep seeing CNN asking where the National Guard and law enforcement are. The fact is that the first line of defense is local law enforcement. If NO had a workable disaster plan and if they had worked to establish law and order from the outset then, they would have a situation where the state and Federal government could begin the orderly evacuations of the people stranded there.
