BLAME GINNIE BROWN-WAITE [sic]FOR THE JESSICA LUNSFORD ACT. She pulled the lever to pull Terri's feeding tube but quickly stepped in to showboat over Florida's sexual predators. Fine and dandy but the US Congress went too far. BIG BROTHER IS HERE AND IT IS EXPENSIVE. Now decent people have to prove they are decent.

What in the world does Ginny Brown-Waite have to do with the controversial Florida Jessica Lunsford Act? Ms. Brown-Waite is a U.S. Congresswoman representing the 5th district of Florida. She had neither input nor vote in the Florida Jessica Lunsford Act (which requires school districts to screen all contractors, and which has come under considerable fire, as reported in the media, of late), which originated as HB1877 in the Florida state legislature, was "engrossed" (passed by both houses of the Florida state legislature) and "enrolled" (sent to Governor Bush for signature) on 4/21/05, and signed into law by the Governor on 5/2/05. The version of HB1877 which Radh posted previously, in post #717 (here) which is noted (top left) as "enrolled" and "engrossed 2," was the correct link to the Florida law all along (which--ahem--could have been determined by anyone reading the first few lines, assuming that reader was sufficiently well-informed to know what "engrossed" and "enrolled" means...LOL!).

But I digress. U.S. Representative Ginny Brown-Waite introduced the federal "Jessica Lunsford Act" on 4/6/05. This act, which was immediately referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary, was then referred to the House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security on 5/10/05, which called for, and held, hearings on the proposed bill (H.R. 1505) on 6/9/05. This bill is still in committee, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with requirements for background checks by school districts or theatres or any other entity. In fact, it's a pretty simple and straightforward bill (those who would like to read it can do so here). Basically, this is a simple bill, which calls for better tracking and monitoring of convicted violent sexual predators. Why anyone would find it objectionable or inappropriate to tighten and improve the monitoring of convicted violent sexual predators is beyond me, but apparently you do, or you wouldn't have posted the little rant I've quoted above.

But the fact remains that Congresswoman Brown-Waite's proposed bill in the U.S. House of Representatives is unrelated to (and bears absolutely no resemblence to) the controversial Florida "Jessica Lunsford Act" which was signed into Florida law by Governor Bush on 5/2/05, and which became effective on 9/1/05, so I remain perplexed by your rant connecting Ms. Brown-Waite with the Florida law.

Ginnie Brown-Waite is a buddy of Jay Wolfson, USF. She stuck her nose into the Jessica Lunsford matter at her level. Ginnie Brown-Waite stole her opponents' campaign signs. She's another RINO.

have a nice weekend. thanks for bumping the thread.
