Am I correct in saying that scientific theories are considered true until proven absolutely false?

Yes, scientific theories are considered to be true by the majority of the scientific community.

"Yes, scientific theories are considered to be true by the majority of the scientific community."

Actually, the best that can be said about *any* theory is: "not yet disproved". There are many co-existing and contradictory scientific theories. Each is believed by a subset of scientists. A theory is simply a story that plausibly ties together the currently known facts. Historically, the vast majority of theories have eventually been proven false -- that's what we call progress.

Please note that I'm not -- repeat not -- carrying a brief for ID. I'm simply trying to point out that no theory, including evolution, has been proved simply by a majority vote of scientists.
