I wonder, did the person in question have a shovel, or a tarp, or a bag of LIME...or something?

I would think that if my neighbor was deceased in the front yard and I couldn't get anyone to come scoop him up, I might take measures to bury the poor soul...Or at least do SOMETHING to lessen the smell.

Yes, those houses in almost every neighborhood (except a very, very few places in the French Qtr) all have front and back yards, steps, stoops, or driveways and garages.

And even most of the exclusive houses in the FQ have enclosed (gated and bricked-in) front yards and gardens.

How well has this disaster been handled? 4 years of Homeland Security.....We had warnings about the Hurricane....What if this had been a terror attack? Flooding NO. I don't think HS is prepared to do anything. Seems to me 4 years and nothing to show. IMO.

This guy complaining is just another example of a low life waiting for someone else to show up and do the work, I'm guessing he's sitting on his lawn waiting for the mailman to bring him his monthy government handout.

I saw this guy. While sad ( I can't imagine how I would feel stranded down there w/ no help in the immediate future), it struck me what a lazy, wait for everyone to do something attitude he had. He sat there and just stared at the body and got mad no one covered/moved it? Do it yourself and when help comes, notify them where it is. Only the truly helpless and dependent have this kind of attitude, and sadly, it got many into the predicament they are in right now (not everyone, but many).

We need to get some TV broadcaster to look at a flooded car and announce, "It looks like Senator Kennedy is dating again."

every stick of wood in town is being eaten by Formosan Termites.

They're just eating the wood that American termites won't eat.

Did you see that lot of buses that were covered in water? I wondered why they did not use them to evacuate people. I also wondered about cars being sold. They were destroyed, too. They could have used some of them too, especially large vans which could carry more people.

If the governor would have requested buses from other school districts a couple of hours from New Orleans, many of these people could have been saved.

Picture of flooded buses

Why would he need to get buses from other districts when he had hundreds of buses sitting idle in his own district? Most of them are now total losses because they were left behind and are under water. These could have been used to ferry people out of the city early on.

Saw a piece on CNN a few minutes ago. Mississipi Governor Haley Barbour was the recipient of what seemed to be snide comments about the Federal Government- re disaster.

I believe, but not sure the interviewer was a CNN man- he handed off to more sympathetic Daren Kagan after. While the Governor was trying to explain, he was being interjected. Not just once, it seemed he was being interogated. He even said calmly words to the effect that "if you would let me state the case.....".

The arrogance of some of these people is nothing new. The Governor when he could, refuted the assertions about the Federal Government. I am able to say this about such nasty unecessary criticism of certain news people.

I have been wondering if maybe the magnitude of this disaster, and the huge number of dead may put our casualties in Iraq in perspective.

re: I'm not ready to jump on Nagin just yet)))

I am. And the &%$#ing police chief, too. Yesterday on Fox they showed thousands on the causeways, with the police cars drivning among them, with people begging, "Which way do we go? Which ways are clear? Just tell us where to walk!" and the police just driving by.

Whatever break this writer wants to cut LA Democrats, this is inexcusable, not to even send the police with "Go in that direction, and keep walking"-- and if the police can get there, they could also bring water.

My thoughts exactly! Get off your duff and give the folks a decent Christian burial to help with disease control.

Anybody seen the Gov of LA lately, maybe she could come out and give us all another tear-up for luck.

You know, nothing stopped the LA Gov from putting the guard on ready standby, or even could have deployed them well before before the hurricane hit. What say you Gov Blanco D(LA), sleep at the switch were we?

Wonder how long it will take for anyone to rais the questions of "should there even be a New Orleans - at least at that location"?.

I say no. Its stupid to keep rebuilding on such flood prone land. Now if someone wants to do it on their own dime, Hey - no problem.

But why waste taxpayer dollars and the lives of residents to try it over again?
