WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States should brace for the prospect of suicide attacks against mass transit such as those that rocked London in July 2005.
The Rand Corp. said in a report that the United States would be next in line for suicide attacks that have already struck Europe and Asia . The report, authored by Bruce Hoffman, said the most likely attacks would be those against mass transit and inspired by the 2001 suicide strikes by Al Qaida in New York and Washington.
"It seems very likely that we will see more suicide attacks in the United States in the future," the report, entitled "Defending America Against Suicide Terrorism," said. "The suicide aspect of the 9/11 [2001] attacks was essential to their success and stunning impact."
