When Barbour has head of RNC, I developed a lot of respect for the Republican "limited government, balanced budget" approach.

Me, too. Though I credited Gingrich more than Barbour.

Of course, after the spending sprees of recent years, very few Republicans should be taken seriously when using words like 'limited government' and 'balanced budget'. Oh, yeah, I forgot. They stopped talking about how important those were several years back when they grabbed the federal wallet and started to spend.

</small government rant>

Save time, instead of watching CNN, just print a page that says "It's all Bush's fault" and tape it to your TV screen!

Barbour for Pres in 2008! One thing that has always been impressive about him is his ability to just dismantle the Leftist attack machine. I saw a "talk show" where he just slapped the late Senator Wellstone down completely. Never raised his voice, never was rude, but just called the Senator on his out of control rhetoric. Could tell by looking at Gov Barbour it was pistols before breakfast if the Senator didn't back down.

check CNN during national disasters anymore.

The level of fundamental incompetence and ignorance on display by the dinosaur media is just shocking. Seems in their little world the President is an absolute despot that can waggle his fingers and make anything happen. The idea that their are legal checks on the Federal Authority, EVEN in the fact of a complete collapse of local and state govt must come as a very rude shock to their child like intellects and basic emotional neediness

. It's very sad that that wasn't taken into consideration when they were doing all their "planning"!

Say just what DID all that Fed Homeland Security money give the Democrat City Govts after 9-11 to prepare for JUST this sort of disaster BUY us? If last week performance by the City of NO and the State of Louisiana is any indication, I want my money back

One more question: Is it even legal for the regular U.S. military to assume operations within the USA, even for disaster relief

Yes but not in a law enforcement role. That is restricted to the State National Guard under command of the Gov. There are certain things the Gov has to do. I think declare a state of emergency or something before she can send in the Guard. It looks like President Bush FINALLY got the State of Lousiana to accept Federal Troops on Friday when he was there. They can be used at the invitation of the State Gov. The other case is if the State or Local authority is in defiance of Federal Authority. That is why Esinhower could send the troops into Little Rock in 1956. However, the State is STILL refusing to relase authority for operations to the Feds. Looks like Gov Blanco is STILL in CYA mode.

The military is going in to control NO.

Finally. It would apprear Blanco either grew a back bone or got out of the way. God be with those men. This is going to be ugly but it needs doing.

Part of the same team. We are going to need them. IF you listen to the Hysteric Leftist. NO is going to be the turning point they have been waiting for to turn the clock back to LBJ style Great Society ism. IF the Feds are to be responsible for everything, then they should PAY for everything (As if we don't now). They have watched their power erode for 25 years and it really is last ditch time for them.
