Well, my experience has been through Amoco Oil just before it became BP. What they used to have are district marketing people who would set the prices for you based on certain market dynamics that they observe. The corporation spends the money on marketing....that is how they decide to to build stations in certain areas also.

The franchisee has certain margin expectations by contract, but he doesn't set pricing because he doesn't do his own market analysis. Usually your price change notices would come in a phone call. The franchisee would also be able to call early in the morning and check prices for his district and comply.

That is what I remember, but it has been a while. Maybe BP does it differently.
