Thank you for your concern. I haven't been able to get in touch with anyone directly. All my relatives have since moved out of Louisiana, but there's no word yet from my friends. Interestingly, nearly all of my friends are either in law enforcement or the medical field, so they stayed . . . Even when communications are back up I expect they'll be really busy for some time.
I know that things have changed in Slidell since I lived there, it's grown and become a lot like New Orleans, in the sense of population and crime growth rates.
I haven't heard a thing about Baton Rouge or Hammond, where I went to college.

My best friend from childhood lives in Ponchatoula.
He's been working up in Pennsylvania since before the storm, but was supervising construction at SE Louisiana State in Hammond prior to that.
His wife & kids were fine - evacuated to Opelousas during the storm.
They had no damage to their place in Ponchatoula.
