My friend's home in Jackson was also wiped out and he is missing a brother and sister. I do understand what Polly is going through and pray for her, but there is nothing that can be done now so its best to sit and wait and prepare for the next few weeks rather than worry about gas for the car. Anyone alive and in healthy should be doing their best to contact the helicopters overhead for evacuation assistance or helping those that are worse off. The fact is that everyone is on their own now and there is nothing anyone can do to change immediately change that. Its time to take a frontier attitude because that is the only thing that will save anyone in the affected areas right now. I may sound cold to others, but I'm simply stating the fact. I do wish you luck Polly and hope you and all your family and friends come out of this better than those that are dead, but there is nothing you can do but to help yourself right now.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's home in Jackson being wiped out. I wasn't aware that anyone lost their home in Jackson except for the elderly lady in Belhaven who had a tree fall on her house. Please tell your friend to post the information about his missing brother and sister at www.clarionledger.com. I live in an area that is about 200 miles from the Gulf Coast and New Orleans. We had hurricane-force winds here, but no real damage other than some missing shingles and a few downed trees. I don't need to be evacuated.
