Steve,
My son's ship the USS Benfold was part of the 5th Fleet that responded to the tsunami along with the USS Lincoln - it took them 5 or 6 days to get there from Hong Kong (if I remember right)- it was the day after Christmas & some of it is a blur now

Yes, and if I remember right, the USA - was criticized for being slow to respond. Now, the talking points are that we responded faster to the tsunami than to Katrina. People - even many FReepers - seem to think that in a disaster of this magnitude you can just snap your fingers and get instant results. Here in the NW when we have relatively minor wind storms (60-70 mph) and lose power, sometimes power isn't restored in some areas for more than a week. But in this huge disaster, people are demanding instant results and there's all this finger pointing. I am extremely angry right now.
