I just saw it on TV; saw another woman blaming cops or firefighters for something else.
It is particularly dangerous for rescue people to STOP TO HELP in the midst of a very stressed out crowd like this -- they'd be swamped and overwhelmed within minutes. Hysteria rules people in situations like this, not always, but fairly consistently.
Compare the mayor of Houston to the one in NO.
When support for the Pacific war in WW11 started to wane, we made it a point to show our dead soldiers floating off the beaches of those miserable islands. Like it or not, it worked.
mpackard...you have our prayers. I'm so sorry...
Law and order could be maintained if the police break into stores and distribute items in an orderly fashion, playing "Soup Nazi" if need be. Even if some people truly need certain items, they're no more likely to actually get the items they truly need in a free-for-all than they would be if looting/'finding'/etc. were effectively prohibited. Having police distribute items in semi-controlled fashion would be better than either alternative.
When I saw the Head of the State Police's response to the question it chilled me to the bone! I am afraid the folks in charge locally down there have been promoted way above their abilities.
People are going to die because of some of these incompetent boobs!
Has any foreign country said anything? just wondering
CBS showed bodies covered with sheets, but not actual bodies.
Unless it does a 180 degree turn and go west, TS Lee is not a threat to land.
There are two areas of concern behind TS Lee though that could get better organized as they move west.
Ah yes, when Fidel emptied his prisons . . . I forget which page this is from in the leftist handbook . . .
Reminds me of another national tragedy.
"Has any foreign country said anything?"
Russia and Israel have offered aid. Blair said Britain was ready to offer aid if asked.
Sidney the Snake pens,

But even so, my boss, the Sinkmeister, played in the Oval Orifice with Monica, instead of making New Orleans safe.
This was the state's job, not the Federal Government's. All the precautions should have been put in place by LA Governor, Emergency Management Dept. & somewhat, the mayor of New Orleans. The "Federal Government" is stepping in to help. This was a disaster of a magnitude that they did not forsee.
Nobody is even considering many of the logistical problems this disaster has caused. There was undelivered mail at the regional distribution center. That effects far more than greater New Orleans.
People also have no way of paying their bills even assuming they are spending it all on hotel bills. Do businesses re-open without the residents back to act as consumers and future looters?
What was the disaster recovery plan for big companies located in New Orleans, like Freeport McMoran and ChevronTexaco? Their workers aren't coming to work but the companies still have operations that must be maintained outside the city.
Does the power company spend any time restoring power to homes that might well be bulldozed?
I don't know the answer to any of these things, but this thing is much bigger than just New Orleans or the Gulf Coast extending to Mobile.
And has anyone heard from blam?
I am hoping the President does a longer address to the nation once the recovery and everything is done, like he did several days after 9/11....like today, his 9/11 address was short and to the point.
They need to rotate him out of there.
Senator Mary L. in major buttcovering mode. And apparently now she's decided that the failure of the levees was a separate event from the hurricane.
The phrase of the day may need to be 'cause and effect'...
