A lot of the people in the SD are separated physically from their families. Many men stayed in their homes while sending their wives and children to the SD. I can understand their reluctance to leave for another city.
"The bodies of the dead in Thailand, etc, moved the world to donate millions and millions. Yet, we won't show the dead from this incident"
Good point.
That's what I heard happened a lot over the years -- they didn't use the money for the levees they had been getting but for pet projects.
I am in sunny Calif (just quakes & occasional fires).....daughter of people in Mandeville relocated here and we had been worried sick...don't need anything but some good luck for all..thanks! I thought of asking Malichi if his two small debris picker uppers (6 & 9 year olds) were available..but apparently Mandeville has lots of large fallen trees, probably beyond their load limit..LOL...
This is true, and not even because of incompetence or failed plans or whatever other fingerpointing sorts of reasons. The reality is that there are things that can happen, like this, where the scope of the problem is simply too great for anything to happen immediately for most of the affected people.
A little bit of self-reliance goes a long way, and helps even more by trimming down the sheer volume of people that need immediate help.
So sad. They are only hurting their greater community.
As I watch the rescue efforts I can only say "God bless you Igor Sikorsky" - rest well sir, your machine has saved millions over the years.
And that they aren't expecting to find too many more people to rescue.
I am really tired of the talking heads w/every hair in place sitting around critiquing what others are out DOING to help these people. Has ANYone heard from the Hollywood crowd about HELPING?
I heard one woman interviewed in NO say she had to get back to her job in a few weeks, and it turns out her job is in NO...definitely in a state of denial.
But you can't really blame them, we're probably dealing with thousands of people suffering shock, and if you had to think through the ramifications of suddenly being without a home, a car, a job, and a hometown, it could rattle anyone's brain.
thank you....
There was some poor woman on Fox (I think) earlier who had lost everything and was talking about her job she had to get back to afterward. It's so sad. There ARE NO jobs, no businesses, commerce, homes, facilities, etc. There also won't be for some time.
I'm not saying they need to zoom in on a dead body floating in the water enough to tell who it was, but enough can be shown or maybe even better described than it has been so people get the sense on the human tragedy there. This didn't seem to be a concern during the tsunami footage when you actually could see people drowning before your very eyes. Sometimes the image carries a lot more weight than a report from someone there on what they say they saw.
NO, Shep asked the lady in charge of the State police and SHE HAD NO ANSWER WHEN HE ASKED WHERE THE FOLKS AROUND HIM SHOULD GO! SHE HAD NO ANSWER! SHE WAS A DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS AND SHE WAS IN CHARGE!
There were 2 men interviewed on FNC today saying that same thing. They would not go without being reunited at the least.
I was disspaointed in hearing about the looting, but there is no food, water, phone service, cell service, public service and no way out. In 24 hours a thriving city has been reduced to Rwanda. I think I can look the other wa if a hungry family loots for food. Now those guys stealing TVs and Jewlry are another story. I am stunned by the devastation..
I think they're too busy singing along with Joan Baez in Cindyland.
And Clinton cut military spending, was responsible for 9/11 for his inaction, ...
If you can't take the heat, stay our of the kitchen.
