CNN just reported that gas was nearly 4.99 in some stations in Atlanta. They said stations are rationing people to ten bucks worth of gas.
Blamed the culprit on a shut off east coast gas pipeline.
I seriously wonder if this is true?
According to Georgia Public Radio, that part is true, and the governor is urging people not to panic and saying the pipeline should be operational again by the weekend. That report said that 80% of Georgia's gasoline was delivered via the pipeline (which I found a bit hard to believe, but that is what they said.)
It is very true and it ain't pretty. Both the "Colonial" and "Plantation" pipelines running north and east out of New Orleans are shut down and without power. One of the two was operating until yesterday on mobil emergency backup power generation system which has been now been shut off. Rumor has it generator is being moved to SPR to help pump crude.
Yep- the president was just discussing the problem in his press conf.
P.S. Go buy coffee ASAP...Folgers is in NO

Try $5.87.
Prices today just dipped below pre-Katrina levels. $2.59 / gal at this one store I track prior to Katrina, as high as $3.89, now this morning was at $2.54.
