I wonder if they're 'working on a plan' yet to deal with the bodies? Other than just shoving them aside, that is.
Why, oh why on earth would you just leave the bodies floating around? First of all, it has to be very unsanitary. Second, can we maybe treat them with a little more dignity than that? I mean, they were human beings, not pieces of flotsam to just be judged out of the way.

Because they're trying to rescue the living first.
Resources and manpower are overwhelmed. Even with lots of manpower, it's almost impossible to get around the city. What transportation is available is being used to save lives.
Sure, floating bodies pose sanitation problems. So do overflowing sewers.
It's just a matter of priorities, kind of like triage in nursing. You put the effort and resources where they do the most good.
In this case, saving lives trumps respect for dead bodies.

The Dems have proposed a new approach...

They're getting to the dead asap.
This is not an easy task at all.
Already have collected many and
are in funeral homes. Waiting
to be identified by relatives.
(This too will take time.)
It's just not easy or simple
to get from point A to B.

The reports I have seen state that rescuers are leaving dead bodies in order to help the living. This will create problems (notably disease) over time, but priority must be given to those who can be helped.
You are quite correct, someone will have to do a graves registration type operation to deal with the casualties. However, I think they are more concerned with trying to prevent any more flooding at this point.

Save the living first, (or have even more dead bodies) the dead no longer care, they are dead.

DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THEY DON'T GIVE A HOOT ABOUT THE DEAD BODIES?!?!?
Wake up, for goodness sake! This is a horrific disaster, and right now they're still desperately trying to save lives.

I understand the "cringe factor" of just shoving the bodies out of the way. But the more time they spend dealing with bodies, the more people die in oven attics and trapped in debris.
I'm sure they will deal respectfully with them when the hope of finding and rescuing survivors diminishes. Limited human resources for search and rescue require prioritizing the living over the dead.

I'm sure that on second thought that you realize getting to the living before they become corpses themselves is priority.

Why, oh why on earth would you just leave the bodies floating around?Given the choice to remove a floater or rescue a helpless victim to safety, what would YOU do?
To: Trust but Verify
Well where would YOU put them? Can't bury them, haven't got time to identify them...where do you place them?
Thw RESCUE workers are busy with sick, injured and stranded people...

Because right now they have their hands full trying to keep more people from JOINING THE DEAD.
At this level of disaster you have to start Triage. Even some of the living are going to be shoved aside because they just don't have the resources to deal with them and they aren't likely to survive. Thats the reality of the situation.
