"If the American Red Cross asks us for help, we will be there directly

I don't remember the US every waiting to be "Asked" to help.

Having lived and worked in NO, I have seen gobs of Europeans visiting the city in the past.

"Amen" to that, brother.

But you know what, I don't want their help. We can and will handle this ourselves.

Viva America!

Yet, in Europe, the Web sites of major aid organizations -- including international branches of the Red Cross in Germany, France, England etc. -- don't even mention its existence.

It's ironic, but I just got off the phone with my wife who is in Volgograd, Russia. She said Russians are extremely upset with what has happened, and are talking about helping.

Maybe we just use our UN contribution to pay this.

Yeah, but read the quote in context -- it's made in light of the fact that the US has a good distaster handling system in place. If 100 organizations from around the world just started showing up to help, it would probably be more disruptive than helpful.

ALso, as the tsunami last winter showed, despite the emotional reactions to such events, the "evaluate and then respond" approach is better than jumping in without an idea of what to do just to so "something".

Teeing it up for the next wave of Bush-bashing -

"If Bush hadn't alienated the entire world with his illegal oil war and his cowboy attitude, the foreign disaster aid would be pouring in!"

Yep. Right on. Those who can, do. Those who can't whine about how "cheap Americans are"

Did the EU just offer to hold Uncle Sam's coat. Again? Maybe not even that. Oh, well, no loss. The Good Lord helps those who help themselves. (And I'm not referring to looters.)

.....crickets......

They're too busy trying to maintain cradle-to-grave welfare. We'll get exactly the help we expect from Europe. Nothing.

(Shrug) Eh...for once, the Eurinals are right. The US is more than capable of caring for itself. It is best that they utilize the resources they have for current and future disasters that strike where people are less fortunate.

To the rest of the world:

Take your aid and stick it where the sun doesn't shine. Keep your aid efforts and $$$ enriching African despots and tin-pot third-world strongmen while your "target" demographic of your aid $$$ starve and continue to die.

WE DO NOT NEED YOU AT ALL!
God save our Republic!

One of my liberal marxist-democrat co-workers already said that one.

One of the most moving things I ever saw. Right after 9-11 hundreds of ordinary Russians came and laid flowers by the walls of the Embassy in Moscow. The Russians understand suffering. They are fabulous people. Their Govt ummm well let's just say the PEOPLE are marvolous. Next time you talk to your wife, tell her Spaceba!(Means Thank you!) in phonetic Russian. (Don't have Cyrillic on my computer).
